Jesus: Our True Sign 2/21

Jesus had already performed signs by his miracles and many of the people of this generation didn’t believe in him. Would another sign really change their hearts?  If they had seen Jesus with the eyes of faith, they would have witnessed the very sign they wanted.

The “sign of Jonah” is nothing but Jesus himself. Jonah and Solomon both prefigured Jesus. Jonah was the sign that revealed God’s mercy to the Assyrians in Nineveh who believed and repented, and Solomon the sign to the Queen of Sheba who recognized his wisdom as coming from the Lord. Yet the people rejected the gospel from Jesus, the Word of God Himself and in doing so would not escape condemnation from the people of Nineveh, the Queen of Sheba and ultimately from God himself. What must we do to escape similar condemnation?

Be of a contrite and humbled heart. Return to the Lord with our whole heart for He is gracious and merciful. Lord, cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.

Holy Spirit enlighten our hearts and transform your people to be a sign of your love and mercy to all. Amen.

Jesús: Nuestro Verdadero Símbolo 2/21

Jesús ya había realizado señales por medio de sus milagros y muchas personas de esa generación no creían en El. ¿Es que acaso otra señal cambiaría sus corazones? Si hubieran visto a Jesús con los ojos de la fe, habrían sido testigos de esa señal que buscaban.

La "señal de Jonás" es Jesús mismo. Jonás y Salomón ambos prefiguraron a Jesús. Jonás fue la señal que reveló la misericordia de Dios a los asirios en Nínive que creyeron y se arrepintieron, y Salomón la señal a la reina de Saba que reconoció su sabiduría como proveniente del Señor. Sin embargo, la gente rechazó el Evangelio de Jesús, la Palabra de Dios mismo y al hacerlo ellos si recibirían la condena que la gente de Ninive no recibió puesto que ellos si aceptaron la palabra recibida por Jonas. ¿Qué debemos hacer para evitar condenarnos?

Tener un corazón arrepentido y humilde. Regresa al Señor con todo tu corazón, porque Él es compasivo y misericordioso. Señor, no me arrojes de tu presencia, y no me quites tu Espíritu Santo.

Espíritu Santo, ilumina nuestros corazones y transforma a tu gente para que sea un signo de tu amor y misericordia para todos. Amén.
